12th Teapot and Tea Things Tuesday

Roses are Red My Love

Have a heart that never hardens,
a temper that never tires and
                        a touch that never hurts.
                                                                                              Charles Dickens

This tea set, of  'Old English Rose', was a Christmas gift from my husband several years ago.  With very few pennies in our pockets, we set out for a short drive in the countryside, one summer afternoon. Our destination was  a quaint village for a cup of tea and window shopping at some favorite antique stores.

There it was.  Not one teacup but a complete teaset, with teapot, cream and sugar, four teacups and desert plates. Purchasing it was out of the question. Asking for it not uttered. Sigh...  But the memory stayed and of course I recounted to my sweetie how my heart urned for it. Then upon revisiting the store several weeks later, it unfortunately was no longer to be found. I knew someone else had found my treasure and would be the one to cherish it for many years to come. I had to be satisfied in being happy for someone else.

Christmas came and there was a big box under the tree for me. Unwrapping this mystery held me in suspense. And then the squeals of joy that came from my delight… sounds my family find still quite odd to this day… There was the tea set! Now, my precious tea set.  Mr. R had purchased it over time…sacrifices unknown to me.

Tea will be served at four!

Four pretty teacups

Each one a different shape or size

You may choose the one you like best

This one is special, but I don't know the history behind it.
Do you?

Cream and Sugar is set in place

Two serving dishes.
I wonder what delicacy she will place on them?

Two different desert plates

Both are called
Old English Rose
ROYAL ALBERT
Crown China(on first plate)
Bone China(on second plate)
England

A well rounded figure of a woman

Delicate gold detail

Red velvet strawberry is from a collection of Christmas ornaments.
Too cute to hide 'til December.

An orphaned saucer compliments the pattern and is adopted
into the family

The table is set and waiting for you to join us for tea.
It is our pleasure to welcome you, my friend.

This week Mr. R and I celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary. Quite a triumph! Some may ask, "What is the secret to the longevity of your relationship? It is really not much of a secret, though it did take us a few years to find the answers and it is still a work in progress as we journey through life together. "Love others as you would have them love you".  Looking to one of the oldest books on Earth, the Bible, we found a cornerstone to build on. God's love is perfect… an example for us to model. And if this is how God loves all of us, is this not how He would command us to love all of his children?

Mr. R and I are best friends. We strive to be for the other what we would want the other to be for us. Other-centered unconditional love. Be the person you would want your partner to be. Simple words, but not a simple task. Hard work, but life changing results.

Psalm 103:8

The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.

Psalm 103:8,9 (The Message)

God is sheer mercy and grace;
not easily angered, he's rich in love.
He doesn't endlessly nag and scold,
nor hold grudges forever.

If you have a moment please leave us your thoughts.
We love to hear how you have enjoyed your time with us.

  3. I don't think you got it, so let me try again and I'll be briefer this time :) :) I really love this tea set with the red roses. Red is my favorite color..but the story behind it...That's romantic!!!! So this has now become my most favorite tea set EVER :) :) :)..well, next to my grandmother's :) :) There's so much love in every plate, cup and serving dish :) :)

The Scriptures were lovely. It's always good to gain encouragement from the Bible :) :) I also appreciated you sharing about your married life and how you've managed to stay married so long :) :) I'm still single and all my friends are married now and have kids. I've never been married. I'm still trusting God to bring the right man along...but until then, I count myself blessed, to learn from ladies such as yourself!!!...It's all really good information..Plus there are things that apply even as a single person...like treating people kindly, looking out for the needs of others etc :) :)
Okay, so I thoroughly enjoyed this post today. I enjoy all of them...but this one especially...it had a beautiful tea set, romance, good words from the Bible...marriage advice.. :) :) :)
Have a great week. Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

  4. I have tried to bring my links alive, but woes is me, twice it did not work. Can anyone explain this. I have done this successfully in the past. However the buttons on the side bar are working. Hope this does not deter anyone from joining the parties they want to.
My apologies to the gracious hostesses that have worked so diligently on their meme.
It is 3 AM and I must go to bed.
    Blessings, Pam

  5. Dear Pam,
I loved your post today - I always love your posts, but this one was extra special! Congratulations on celebrating 31 years with your best friend - you truly do know the way to keep a marriage alive, thriving and flourishing! Your tea set is so beautiful - I adore anything with roses and especially Royal Albert - your pieces or exquisite - but the story and testimony of it makes it so much more meaningful. I think the little dangling strawberry is adorable!
I will say that it is impossible to ever pick a favorite of Wanda's extraordinary artwork - all is so breathtaking! Have a blessed day my friend!

  13. Ooooh my Pamela!

I simply must refer to you as,'Pamela' dear friend, especially when all is so charmingly, yet beautifully, elegantly and extravagently delightful!..,

How 'tea-lightfully', and utterly equisite'! I love that oh-so-pretty tea set, with that dear little velvet strawberry and the teapot on that cakestand!

So very lovely; you really are an exceptional artist in your own right, very much so, as I have always said!

~ I can literally hardly wait each week, amidst the cadence and rhythm of life's business, to see what lovelies and delights await at you blog!

Your compositions and photography are most charming and excellent my friend!

For me personally, 'equal to' the experience and absolutely analogous to the 'delicious' feeling one gets when opening the pages of a new Victoria and Romantic Homes magazine!..,(And as you well know Pam, that's something that I especially cherish, relish and savour)!

..,Aren't these shared memes just such fabulous experiences for connecting with one another and al of the dear folks in blogland!~ For connections of the heart, mind, hand and soul; such 'eye candy' galore!

..,Simply wonderful, beyond what we could have initially imagined Pam!..,

Above all, I so appreciate your scripture selections as well; when we add a spiritual dimention and mutual caring and fellowship with others it is beyond inspirational!~ You are inspiring me to once more carefuly select some precious scriptures and also some sayings, as I used to long ago!

Thanks so much for hosting once more this week!

    Exquisite!

..,(Sorry Christina, your mama and I are still 'at it', so to speak with our love of all things afternoon tea and more so, still using that 'E' word that you found so amusingly perhaps overused in your teen years).., Hehe

Looks like Mr. R. is still the perfect, partner in life and in all such delights Pam! Congratulations on your 31st wedding anniversary my dear friends!

I have more exciting news re., yet another of my dear nephews when you get a few moments to chat Pam!

Mom arrives home today and we are at full tilt, having picked up three folks at the train and then taking them out to dinner last evening, (while they awaited their rental car the next day); plus the usual tea's, lunchions, bed and breakfast stuff, writing of books day, research, meetings, several parties, day trips, artwork, blogging, photo shoots and 'Christmas Carol' productions.., Whew!..,

Somehow Pam, I think we understand each other's busy lives, do'nt you?!~ Hehe

    Have a blessed week!

Cheers and hugs from your friend Wanda Lee

P.S.~ Thanks for your kind words; glad you liked the new 'buttons' my friend!

  29. Pam,
your heartwarming story really brought tears in my eyes. That was so cute of your husband. And this teaset is really charming, no it is exquisite! I think the different types of saucers and cups are because they are made in different times. Maybe long time ago. Anyway, the set is to die for. Thank you for sharing this wonderful set and the story behind it.
