The 9th, 'Teapot and Tea Things Tuesday':

Welcome to our  9th, Teapot and Tea Things Tuesday!

Last week was so fun, don't you think?

Bouquet picked from the nature path behide our home

I was so thrilled that so many of you wanted share a 'special-tea' moment with us. I am amazed at the artistc flair you all have and the heart-felt memories that you share.

Thank you to those who left wonderful, kind comments.  It is so encouraging to a "newbie" like me.  I will be follwing up as soon as I can.  Welcome to our new Followers. I am looking forward to getting aquainted with you.

Its time to enjoy the lazy, hazy days of summer. Kick off your shoes. Feel the green grass on your bare feet. Stretch out on a blanket under the tree and relax as I pour the tea.

With the long weekend approaching for both sides of the border I have given a more casual look to my tea table.

In character, in manners, in style, in all things, the supreme excellence is simplicity

I selected a set of JOHNSON BROTHERS desert plates.
I have a set of six, in different colours.
I search through my china cabinet for a cup and saucer to compliment each.
Success with 5 colour schemes and I will use the sixth to serve "Lazy Daisy Cake"

When I need to keep things simple  I go back to recipes I am comfortable making and are delicious.
This is actually the first cake I ever made on my own.  When I was about 13 years old.  Most of you are probably familiar with it.   For me this is a K~I~S~S~E~D recipe.

LAZY DAISY CAKE

INGREDIENTS:

2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup cake flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter or margarine

TOPPING:
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
2 tablespoons light cream (milk will work in a pinch)
1 cup shredded coconut

DIRECTIONS:

1.In a large mixing bowl, beat eggs, sugar and vanilla on high until thick and lemon-colored, about 4 minutes. 2.Combine flour, baking powder and salt; add to egg mixture. Beat on low just until combined.
Heat milk and butter in a small saucepan until butter melts. Do not boil.
Add to batter; beat thoroughly (the batter will be thin).
Pour into a greased 9-in. square baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 20-25 minutes or until cake tests done. Cool slightly.

For topping, blend all ingredients well; spread over warm cake. Broil about 4 in. from the heat for 3-4 minutes or until the top is lightly browned.

Tip
Poke holes in the cake prior to broiling to allow some of the gooey goodness to seep in even deeper!!

Or

I had never thought of this before but it sounds delish....
"This is great! fluffy, sweet, delicious! I've made it dairy free also, by substituting coconut milk for the moo, and oil for the butter. I also like a creamy coconut custard for the topping, use the rest of the can of coconut milk and heat it with sugar and a tbsp of cornstarch! sivv it if its a bit lumpy, but its PERFECT! I can't believe its so EASY!" by jovialj

SPIRITUAL SUNDAY & WEEKLY WORDS TO LIVE BY

Just as a garden flourishes when the gardener invests long hours and tender care so will we if we invite the Master Gardener to cultivate our thoughts and actions, so that we will bare beautiful fruit and blossoms for his glory.

Psalm 1:2,3
2 But they delight in the law of the LORD,
meditating on it day and night.
3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do.

Psalm 1:2 (Message)
Instead you thrill to God's Word, you chew on Scripture day and night. You're a tree replanted in Eden, bearing fresh fruit every month, Never dropping a leaf, always in blossom.

On Sunday, I am linking to Spiritual Sundays.
Also to Tracey's, Weekly Words to Live By at Notes from A Cottage Industry.

Thank you Charlotte and Ginger and Tracey, for hostessing.

You are invited to join in. This is a wonderful way to start your week.

Have wonderful week and may you see God's hand in your life each day and feel His love for you.

Welome to the 8th, Teapot and Tea Things Tuesday:

COTTON CANDY BLOSSOMS

Mr Handsome has been consulting on the rewrite of our friend's web site.  Some of you have been introduced to singer, songwriter, Kelita, through "Spititual Sunday" and  "Weekly Words to Live By".  We are getting very excited as this project nears completion.  I will announce when her new site goes live. Kelita as also started to blog.

Kelita came to our door last week with a small box in her arms. She said it was for me, if I wished to have it.  Opening the box, what do you suppose I saw?... China and teacups!
No need to contemplate...I think my quick response may have startled her...yes I would love to include them in my circle of teacup friends!

These dishes hold treasured memories for both Kelita and myself as a child.
The tea set was her mother's when she first got married.  The soft pink blossoms of the trees reminded Kelita of cotton candy, when she was a child.

For me, my Aunt Orpha had but one teacup of this pattern and I loved how delicate and old fashioned it looked. It reminds me of "Anne of Green Gables", my favorite story book as a young girl.  As well, the blossoming trees remind me  of vacations spent with my dear friend, Wanda Lee, on the East Coast. The apple trees, in "The Valley", were in blossom last time I visited her. Oh what wonderful memories...

Kelita was performing out East a few years ago. I suggested that Wanda Lee would love her concert.  Wanda Lee was thrilled and had a chance to meet Kelita after the performance.  I think the three of us will enjoy a catching up over a virtual tea today... But of course, you are invited too!  Please join me as I unpack the box and create a tea with my new treasures.

Spiritual Sundays& Weekly Words to Live By

 SPIRITUAL SUNDAYS
    and
        WEEKLY WORDS TO LIVE BY

God loves each of us as if there were

only one of us.

                                                             St. Augustine

I have been inspired by the multitude of unique flowers in my neighbors' gardens and the wildflowers along the wooded path behind our house these past few weeks.  A visual reminder that just as each flower is special individually and loved by God, so are we, even more so.  How blessed we are by God's ever bountiful creation and His love for us.

Luke 12:27 (NIV)
"Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

Luke 12:27 (The Message)
25-28"Has anyone by fussing before the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? If fussing can't even do that, why fuss at all? Walk into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They don't fuss with their appearance—but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them. If God gives such attention to the wildflowers, most of them never even seen, don't you think he'll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?

The 7th Teapot And Tea Things Tuesday; How Does Your Garden Grow?

Welcome to the 7th,

Teapot and Tea Things Tuesday

God loves each of us as if there were
only one of us.
St. Augustine

I am constantly amazed by the delicate, intricate designs of the flowers in nature. How many different hues of color on each petal. What a miracle each and every plant is! be it prolific or rare, each with its own unique fragrance and qualities.  Just like us. How incredibly awesome God's imagination must be!

So this tea is to honour the gardeners in our midst. Those of you who have a passion for all things living and green, outdoors and in. Those compassionate souls who nurture seedlings and cuttings; water, fertilize and tug out the weeds with determination, from the damp cool days of spring to the dog days of summer. To you I want to say thank you. Thank you for the multi coloured gardens that speak to my soul. Thank you for being such great stewards of God's paint brushes and assisting the master in creating such awe inspiring splendor. I savor the stimulus it gives my senses in sight, smell and wellbeing as I walk by your tended gardens. It is a gift you share with those looking over your fences and this is my note of appreciation.

And so I was inspired to choose tea treasures with delicate flowers from my china cabinet to share with you, this week. I do hope you have a moment to sit, chat and rest over a cup of tea.  Warm scones from the oven, butter and fresh strawberry rhubarb jam .
Simple and simlpy delicious, because I am sharing them with such good friends.  You can tell me how your garden is growing.

The table is being set...

My mom always had an embroidery project
on the go. Don't you agree, she did beautiful work.
I look forward to showing more of them in future posts.

I felt the need for an all white teapot.
I thought it wouldn't distract from the other floral china.
I am sure it will be used for many other occasions.
Homesense $14.99

Cornflower cream and sugar,
just like my Aunt Orpha's.
Depression glass dish for either
lemon slices or rose-shaped butter pats.

Cake stand for the scones and
a creamer with a spoon for the jam.

Which one would you like?

Or maybe one of these?

Some how all colours go together in a garden.

My friend Edith made these before she moved away.
How I miss Edith and her creative spirit.
Three or four on top of white sugar cubes add a
sweet touch of colour.

Just fo fun.

Silhouettes

It has been a pleasure to spend time with you.  Always feel so honoured when my friends take the time to drop in. Hope you feel refreshed and ready to resume your projects in the garden.

Wanda and I would love to know who has dropped in.
Please sign in the guest book with a comment.  We are excited to see what your favorite tea treasure is this week.
