You are welcome to come and chat with me about your thoughts on love as Valentine's Day approaches. Do invite a friend to come along to Silken Purse's tea party at Tuesday Tea for Two and we can all share in the delights of this special day. http://www.silkenpurse.blogspot.com
I wonder if there is any topic more written about than love. The highs and lows, the hurts and healing, the regrets and dreams. I think the essence of the human condition is the need to be loved and to love.
I wondered if there was anything new that I could write about love? I didn’t think there was. So I would love to share with you, some favorite quotes of mine on love.
A baby is born with a need to be loved - and never outgrows it.
~Frank A. Clark
Shall we compare our hearts to a garden -
with beautiful blooms, straggling weeds,
swooping birds and sunshine, rain -
and most importantly, seeds.
~Grey Livingston
The ultimate test of a relationship is to disagree but to hold hands.
~Quoted by Alexandra Penney in Self
The hardest-learned lesson: that people have only their kind of love to give, not our kind.
~Mignon McLaughlin, The Neurotic's Notebook, 1960
Love is an act of endless forgiveness, a tender look which becomes a habit. ~Peter Ustinov
Love is the condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own. ~Robert Heinlein
Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.
I Corinthians 13: 13
May your days be filled with the warming rays of someone’s love.
May you be a source of some one’s love.
May you feel the Father’s grace-filled love for you.

Hello Paper Butterfly,
ReplyDeleteLike that name!! This is my first visit to your blog and it was a sweet one. Enjoyed all your quotes. One thing I have come to learn about love that has really helped me..........because I think we believe a lot of misconceptions about love.
One is that if someone loves you they will never hurt you.........that is just not true, we are all flawed human beings, and sometimes we hurt one another without even realizing it, so just because someone does hurt us doesn't mean they
don't love us!! And also hurting people hurt others, so if you are in relationship with someone who is hurting emotionally they usually take their hurt out on those closest to them unfortunately!!
And another great one we learned from reading a lot of marriage books, and this came from Dr. Gary Chapman and his book the "Five love languarges", and it goes with your quote above
by Mignon McLaughlin. That is we all have our
own love language, there are certain things that make us feel loved, and that is how we will love others, so say, I feel loved by words of encouragement and I give that to you, but you feel loved by physical touch, then you may not feel loved by me!! If you want to really love someone watch how they love you and others, and that will give you a hint as to their love languages, usually we have 2 majors ones that make us feel loved that are unique to us.
He says the 5 languages are 1) physical affection 2) words of affirmation 3) acts of
service 4) gift giving 5)quality time.
If you want to know more go to:
http://www.5lovelanguages.com/learn-the-languages/the-five-love-languages/
Knowing this can revolutionize your marriage
and also your other relationships.
For instance one of my husband and daughters
love languages is "acts of service", I used to think they were just being lazy, and when I read
this book, I realized it was laziness it was
their love language, and when I did things for them they felt loved by it. So that changed how I saw them, and made me want to do things for them rather than resenting it.
My daughters love language is also gift giving
and when she was younger, my hubby would take her out somewhere like to dinner or a movie to do something with her just the two of them and
she would always want to go shopping and we would think she is so materialistic, but it was her love language and you can buy her a pack of gum or a single flower and she will be thrilled just cause you thought of her.
Mine is quality time and if I don't get one on one focused time with those I love I can start to feel very unloved, and when I do get it I feel like you almost have to scrape me off the
ceiling I am so full of joy.
Anyway, it is an excellent read for having better relationships.
That's my thoughts,
enjoyed your post and Have a Very
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!
Blessings, Nellie
Oh yea, I came over from the plumed pen
Hi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping over, and for all your encouraging comments. No, I have not read that book, in fact, I have never heard of it before.
Is it new??? Will have to look that up and get it, we have a pile of books we are reading already but will get to it at some point. We have read love and respect as well, and we actually facilitated a video series by him in Sunday School. He is an awesome communicator!
We learned a ton of stuff from him as well.
It is so amazing to me how the Lord uses people with such different personalities and they all are so helpful and usually they have a lil bit different approach to the subject based on whatever the problem was in their marriage.
I just love that! So you can just learn so much neat stuff, and what a blessing it is!!
You have a great day hon,
Blessings, Nellie
