A year ago I was visiting my eldest son and my daughter-in-love, to-be, on the west coast of Canada. Spring comes earlier there. Buds were tiny bits of green lace on the branches. Spring flowers were shyly showing their blush of colour. Most were familar varieties to me. Except for one. Purple, mauve and white tuffs of tightly clustered flowerettes were abundant. It is what I think heather would look like on the bonnie isle. It brought thoughts of Scotland to mind. Do you know what that pretty little flower is?
I enjoyed the days spent with my adult children and have so many warm memories of the places we enjoyed. As I reminisced, my mind wandered back to the petite purple mounds of flowers, and they inspired me to set a tea table in purple with a Scottish theme.
The cookie plate with sprigs of heather on it, is from Hammersley Co, Longton Stoke-on-Trent, England, is waiting for the fresh baking. It was given to my mom by Gladys, a dear Scotttish lady, who introduced me to the joy of afternoon tea.
The teacups are Highland Thistle by Royal Albert. Gladys gave both my mom and me a teacup with her beloved thistle on it. Its unusual for me to have a matching pair.
The creamer and sugar are pinwheel crystal. I have combined large granule coloured sugar with white, for an added touch of pink.
The purple depression champagne glass is for lemon slices. On other events I have pressed it into service to present clotted cream or jam. It gives height to the table and accents the purple thistle of the teacup. A purchase made on our honeymoon.(a sign of things to come for my Honey)
S o as you see, I am ready for your imminent arrival. The water is boiling for tea in the kitchen and the bell on the oven will soon be ringing. Please be patient and relax while I finish preparations and we can spend the afternoon in pleasant conversation, about all good things British, Scottish, Irish or otherwise.
I love to know who has droppped by. Please say "Hi" before you journey on.
Enjoy your week!
