I am constantly amazed by the delicate, intricate designs of the flowers in nature. How many different hues of color on each petal. What a miracle each and every plant is! be it prolific or rare, each with its own unique fragrance and qualities.  Just like us. How incredibly awesome God's imagination must be!



So this tea is to honour the gardeners in our midst. Those of you who have a passion for all things living and green, outdoors and in. Those compassionate souls who nurture seedlings and cuttings; water, fertilize and tug out the weeds with determination, from the damp cool days of spring to the dog days of summer. To you I want to say thank you. Thank you for the multi coloured gardens that speak to my soul. Thank you for being such great stewards of God's paint brushes and assisting the master in creating such awe inspiring splendor. I savor the stimulus it gives my senses in sight, smell and wellbeing as I walk by your tended gardens. It is a gift you share with those looking over your fences and this is my note of appreciation.


And so I was inspired to choose tea treasures with delicate flowers from my china cabinet to share with you, this week. I do hope you have a moment to sit, chat and rest over a cup of tea.  Warm scones from the oven, butter and fresh strawberry rhubarb jam .
Simple and simlpy delicious, because I am sharing them with such good friends.  You can tell me how your garden is growing.

I look forward to showing more of them in future posts.

I felt the need for an all white teapot.

I thought it wouldn't distract from the other floral china.

I am sure it will be used for many other occasions.

My friend Edith made these before she moved away.

How I miss Edith and her creative spirit.

Three or four on top of white sugar cubes add a

sweet touch of colour.

TEAPOT AND TEA THINGS TUESDAY #4:

Welcome kind friends to the 4th,

 'TEAPOT AND TEA THINGS TUESDAY'!.., 

 I am so glad that you stopped by.  Find a comfy chair in the garden while I pour the tea and place some sweet treats on a pretty plate.

Wanda and I want to thank you all for your kind words and your beautiful contributions the last few weeks.  I have been humbled and inspired by each of your table settings, precious tea treasures and kind comments. It is wonderful to hear the sweet memories that some of you have shared surrounding your china.

I look forward to seeing your creative adventures in pictures this week.


I was inspired by the sunshine that we enjoyed this weekend and chose yellow to inspire my post. ( See Friday's post..."Two days of sun and I don't have to wear 2 layers of clothes, it was a fantastic weekend. If I have spent time with family and friends it was the best weekend".)

There aren't any special memories that I can recall connected to these cups.  I think they have come from at least 3 different family members. It's not where they came from that unites them but what they have in common (how they compliment each other.) I try to think the same way about family and friends. Its not what family we were born into but the relationships we cultivate between each of us and the way we inspire each other .

It is time to celebrate!!  My dear friend Wanda has masterfully created 53 blogs posts about the various aspects of tea. Please do pop over to visit her at Tuesday Tea for Two'   and 'Wednesday Tea For Me And Thee' @ The Plumed Pen.

With such an accomplishment as this I was compelled to polish my silver tea service, so we can celebrate in style. This special set has sentimental memories for me. The set was passed down from a dear family friend to my mom and now is in my care.


My mother had a very dear friend named Gladys. My mom lost her mother at age eight and Gladys had never had children. I suppose because Gladys was a few years senior to my mom that their relationship become one liken to mother and daughter. You can see how the relationship would be very special to them. 


Gladys was a proper Scottish lady,
with a dry wit,  (always laughter in her home)
a love for classical literature (introduced me to Charles Dickens) and
loved the finer things of tea. (the china, good quality tea and eats) 
I am sure she passed her passion for collecting dishes onto both my mom and me.


And so I ask you to imagine you hear the drone of the bagpipes in the distance as I  pay my respects to a grand lady from my past and  honour a cherished friend of the present.



My apologies for the lack of pictures. I have had challenges photographying the tea set.  I still have much to learn. I will post pictures as soon as I have something that does the it justice.  Don't forget to stop in later.

The 1st Teapot And Tea Things Tuesday:

HONOURING GREAT WOMEN


Today is the perfect day to honour a few women, to express my gratitude to them for their contribution to my life.

I received my give-away from Mary at Hope Filled Living.  A precious book with inspirational quotes, scriptures and wonderful pictures.  I know I will go to it often to up lift my weary soul and to share these wonderful words to those around me, that may be in need too.  Thank you Mary for the gift of your friendship, kindness and your weekly writings.

You may think you are on a new blog...but my dearest friend, Wanda, has created a new banner for me.
Do you not love the fresh feel of the ocean breezes as they billow into my room?  My eyes popped wide open when I discovered it late last night.  So excited I could hardly sleep.

Wanda is one of the most creative people I know, as well as, one of my dearest friend. Miles may separate us but the loving fellowship we share on the phone and through our blogs is a precious gift God has blessed me with.

Among other things we share the love of the hunt for pretty pieces to add to our collections.  We happened upon two teacups, twin sisters, so to speak, on one of my visits.  We decided we must each have one and so started a new tradition of friendship teacups.

As my friend Wanda and I introduce a new meme, 

'Teapot And Tea Things Tuesdsay'

I wondered which teapot to share with all of you and with Mother's Day quickly approaching I chose the oldest teapot I have.  It was my grandmother's.  A lady I never had the pleasure of meeting but through family stories and the china in her china cabinet I soon came to love the person she was. 

Minnie Smith, was a farmer's wife, she organized a household of 10 children, plus hired hands,  a loving aunt and sister, a compassionate friend and a woman of God.  Seeing the gently loved tea set I know she took the time to share a cup of tea with family and friends and used her Sunday best when they came.

This is her tea set that has been handed down to me from an aunt. I don't remember seeing anyone pour tea from it.

What a shame.

The teapot lid and sugar lid are graced with tiny rosebuds.

The trivet displays the colours probably closer to the original.

Minnie's sister and husband were fortunate enough to travel in Europe and I wonder if they may have brought the tea set back to her?

 
   The prettiest back drop for china is lace, don't you think?

CATCH A QUIET MOMENT; The 1st,'Teapot And Tea Things Tuesday', A Shared Meme:

Spring has arrived here, at least on most days! Today the sun is warm and cheery but the wind is still nippy. Too chilly to garden but that extreme freshness gave me lots of pep, making today a great day for Spring cleaning, inside.


So I looked over my list of things to do. It will feel so satisfying to put a check mark beside a few finished projects.  Are you finished yet?


 Let's put in a good morning of finishing some tasks and meet for tea, later.

I will set the table.............

 

The creamer was a lonely piece, maybe in its past life it was a small vase. I pressed it into service today because it brings the colours of the china together. I found a single white sugar, at the thrift store for $.79.

To add height, I used a simple glass pedestal to raise the seashell shaped serving dish.

This unique dish was the base for a wee giftie Mr Handsome brought back from a business trip many years ago. It came from  Crabtree & Evelyn with assorted petite containers of their luxury bath products.

Heart shaped  dish with floral butter pats

For a special touch, I pressed soft butter into the candy molds and placed in freezer over night. They released easily into the dish.  Ready to spread on warm banana bread, fresh from the oven. 

Next time I will try finely grated orange peel for added flavour and colour.   Remember to keep it, K*I*S*S.  Keeping it Simple and Stylish.  Your style of course.  Any suggestions for another flavour?
